Patrick Spence is a Texan poet and teacher. His poetry has appeared in The New Criterion° and is forthcoming in The Classical Outlook.
He is working on a literature Ph.D. at the University of Dallas and has published two articles° on Thomas More’s early translations of Lucian. His dissertation will look at More’s adaptation of Lucian’s ironic techniques to his own purposes, and at the interplay of translations, epigrams, and treatises (including Utopia) in a collection that More and Erasmus planned to release jointly.
He teaches English and Latin at a boys’ prep school, which you can get some sense of from his columns.°
